世尊！摄受正法者是摩诃衍，何以故？摩诃衍者，出生一切声闻、缘觉世间出世间善法。世尊！如阿耨大池出八大河，如是，摩诃衍出生一切声闻、缘觉世间出世间善法。

　　World-Honored One! Embracing the true dharma is theMahayana (the Great Vehicle). Why? The Mahayanagenerates all the mundane and transmundane wholesomedharmas of Sound-Hearers and Solitary-Realizers.World-Honored One! Just as the eight great riversoriginate from Lake Anavatapta, all the mundane andtransmundane wholesome dharmas of Sound-Hearersand Solitary-Realizers originate from the Mahayana.

　　大乘法才是实教，声闻、缘觉的法教只是权教，二乘法只是从大乘法中分析出来的一小部分，让畏惧生死的人可以迅速了断生死。由生死的了断，可以让二乘人对佛具足信心，然后才能渐次引入真实教里面，所以才会说摩诃衍（大乘）出生了一切声闻、缘觉的世间法和出世间的善法。

　　Only the Mahayana (the Great Vehicle) Dharma is theteachings of ultimate reality. The Sound-Hearer Dharmaand the Solitary-Realizer Dharma are just expedientteachings. The Two-Vehicle Dharma, which comes fromthe Mahayana Dharma and is only a small portion of it,enables sentient beings who fear the cycle of births anddeaths to eliminate this cycle quickly. Through theelimination of this cycle of births-and-deaths, theTwo-Vehicle learners have complete faith in theBuddha, and can be gradually guided to the teachings ofultimate reality. That is the reason why the MahayanaDharma is said to generate all the mundane andtransmundane wholesome dharmas of Sound-Hearersand Solitary-Realizers.
